Customizing the look and feel of Windows generally requires installing some additional software. Some of these programs are purely cosmetic. But others can really make your PC work better.

Here is a list of some of the popular programs people use here on WinCustomize.com to enhance their Windows experience:

	WindowBlinds	WindowBlinds is a program that customizes the Windows GUI. That's the title bars, push buttons, Start bar, radio buttons, etc. It also can change your Internet Explorer toolbar icons and your progress animations.
	IconPackager	IconPackager is used to change the icons on your computer.
	DesktopX	DesktopX is kind of an all-in-one utility for enhancing your Windows desktop. You can use its "themes" to create a completely different looking Windows desktop interface, or use its "objects" to enhance your existing desktop icons, or its "widgets" to put mini-applications on your desktop that can improve your productivity.
	ObjectDock	ObjectDock is a program that acts as a kind of super program launcher and task manager. It is extremely customizeable and very popular as a replacement or enhancement to the Windows Start bar.
	SkinStudio	SkinStudio is used to create "skins" for programs like WindowBlinds. So if you have ever wanted to try making your own user interfaces for Windows, get this program.
	IconDeveloper	IconDeveloper makes it easy to create your own icons (you would use IconPackager to apply the finished icon).
	BootSkin	BootSkin makes it easy to change your Windows XP boot screen.
	LogonStudio	LogonStudio makes it easy to change your Windows XP logon menu screen.
	Theme Manager	Theme Manager lets you take all these different themes, skins, icons, wallpapers and save them as a single .suite file that will apply them all at once.
	Windows Media Player	Windows Media Player is an MP3 player that comes with Windows but newer versions are available on the web that have more features.
	CursorXP	CursorXP extends the kinds of mouse cursors you can have. Windows itself can have animated mouse cursors OR alpha blended mouse cursors but not both. CursorXP lets them be any size, shape, color, animated, and are much easier to create.
	SysMetrix	SysMetrix is a program that lets you monitor system resources in a skinnable interface that sits on your desktop.
	Litestep	Litestep is a replacement shell for Windows. So if you don't like Explorer, Litestep can replace it with something that uses fewer resources and is very customizeable.

Some of these programs are free. Others are available individually or as part of Stardock's Object Desktop which is a suite of programs that can improve the way Windows looks and functions. Object Desktop includes many of these programs as part of it plus many others not listed here.
