Logoff and Shutdown buttons don't appear correctly under XP

Thanks gents And now to the remark of incorrect buttons appearance. I have explorer. exe modified by ResHack not to have button text shown. The only reason was to have buttons working like on Vista. So if you don´t get your explorer modified it will be showing incorrectly. Sorry for that, next time I will try to make a skin even for users with original explorer. exe. Tom

Thanks for the info - the problem seems to be prevalent in several skins... Does the patch (hack) cause any know issues with XP updates? Edit - Ran ResHack replaced the appropriate strings and updated explorer.exe (in both Windows & DLLCACHE) - It is restored to the original content (and size) after each boot. Got a set of valid instructions for SP3?

this seems a little off putting, having to modify things to get a skin working is not what i call usability. The skin looks good but when there are many others that look the same without needing to "modify" your windows installation i have to pass.

I agree, but bearing in mind to have buttons acting like in Vista, I have had to remove button text. I guess this is nothing new as e.g. JEMAHO has had all his known skins done this way. But if that´s not an easy step to bite for you, take another skin. Have a good day, Tom

Seems that making it the way you did will prevent it from being a widely used skin. Well it's your way and if you are happy with that then that's good. I would try it if it was made to work normally. I guess what you have done is what customizing is all about.

Gotta agree with Nimbin with this.

The logoff/shutdown- button issue isn't all that annoying ( and it's a great looking skin ) but I have to agree with some others nevertheless : isn't the whole point of installing/buying Windowblinds to change apearance without having to adjust elements of the OS yourself ?? I also think this coment is a bit over the top :
But if that´s not an easy step to bite for you, take another skin. Have a good day, Tom
given the fact Nimbin made a valid point.

Yup, this critique is valid and I am not saying that not. I´ve thought that a majority of the users removed shutdown button text if they wanted to have buttons acting like in Vista. Yes, the sense of WB skin is to be applied without any extra work. Despite I love it as it is however will try to make the next skin being shown correctly for anybody

it has nothing to do with being an easy step for me. The reason most people use windowblinds is because of the fact that it alters no system files, therefore is easy and safe to use. I am not having a go at you in any way, like i said the skin looks good. BUT i am sure people don't want to have to modify explorer just to get 1 out of umpteen thousands of skins to work correctly. I have a suggestion. why not include substyles. eg. Normal skin where nothing has to be changed. then another style where those who don't mind modifying their explorer can use it. or even XP and Vista styles. I can't say how difficult this is as i do not know, but a lot of skins that are being released lately are coming with an XP and Vista substyle. I think your work is excellent and i am quite experienced in computers and would have no trouble modifying anything, but it comes down to the fact that the reason i use windowblinds is because i don't want to have to modify anything in order to get a theme to work. So again i say i have to pass on this one but i hope to see more of your work soon

I don't know how basic someone else's shit is but the skin is kinda run of the mill. Nice and Easy even though I know it's no easy task to put one of these together.Spice it up a little and GRAP some attention! -- Good Luck and stay at it. ------ B!

Hey, where did the SE version go to?

The SE version is on his DA page. I got it there yesterday. It's a good skin for what it is. I'm using it right now as a matter of fact. It's OK. I like it. He's got the start panel fixed up. Hey Tom, Thanks for the fix.
