If that is not the case then you certainly have the right to charge for it. Of course if MS had, in fact, paid for it then they should be offering it for download from their site.
In either case, put up a download count for it so we can see how many are paying.
I totally agree with you. My husband and I both paid for Vista Ultimate so that we could also get the Ultimate extra. No one said that the "Extra" meant Extra money we needed to shell out. Stardock was contracted and paid by MS to produce this and now they want more money from the customers too? C'mon, that getting a piece of the pie from 2 sources. How greedy can you get?

Great Job Guys!!!! Its definately worth $5.00, but I do hope that there are more and even better ones coming. Thanks!!!Comment #26 Tuesday, February 20, 2007 7:49 PM
This one is perfect. 100% satisfied with it. This is why I wanted ultimate. Nice job guys.
It does however use between 10-25% of processor resources at any given moment, which is typical for dreams on my machine. I assume it may get better once we get the final non-preview version. At any rate it doesn't slow my system as it's meant for heavy hitting.
How is that Dell 30" monitor? I was thinking about getting another 24 and going dual monitor but the prices have dropped enough I was thinking about getting the 30"...

No, Microsoft paid us nothing for these. We allowed Microsoft to show these as a favor to Microsoft.
Like I said earlier, at the end of the day, people will either be willing to buy this sort of thing or they won't. And if they don't, then obviously there's no market for it and hence no justification for Stardock Design to create content for DreamScene.

It costs nothing to create a WinCustomize account. You're thinking of a WC subscriber which unrelated.
Comment #30 Tuesday, February 20, 2007 8:05 PM
Just to be very clear: Microsoft paid nothing. During their demos they asked if they could use some of the content we were creating for dream.wincustomize.com to show off DreamScene.

Why can't anyone say the obvious.....If "A" happens Stardock receives tons of free content produced by amature artist to help create a need for and sell stardock software, lets face it 90% of users would not have any use for the software without free content. For the so called "master skins" this is nothing more than another source of revenue for a buisness aka: Stardock. In my personel opinion I dont see how Stardock's deskscapes extends MS windows dreamscene beyond what MS intended the program to be, honestly it seems to me this is just a simple case of "King(MS)throwing crumbs to the pawn and the pawn trying to make money off the crumbs" well thats my 4.95 worth.
BUMP

Corporations exist to generate profit. But I don't see that as greed.
Greed, IMO, would describe people who think other people should do work for them for free while contributing nothing back.

Frogboy is full of BS! I just tried the purchase option to see just how much would be charged. When I got to the final screen to pay the total was $19.95 for subscription (which I didn't ask for) and $4.95 for the wallpaper!
You should really know what you're talking about before you open your mouth and insert your foot!!

Are you sure that was not already in your basket?
You do not require a WC subscription to purchase premium content. Having one gives you a discount I believe, but the price shown is the price for a non WC Subscriber.

It was not already in my basket as I only clicked to purchase the wallpaper. I was also unable to remove the item from my basket.

That may be the case but that doesn't make him an expert. Simple, at checkout, the subscription was added to my basked by Stardock and I was unable to remove it from my basket. My choices were to pay for both the subsciption and the wallpaper or cancel the order. I cancelled the order! I've already paid Microsoft for the Extra, I'm not paying Stardock as well.

You do not need a WinCustomize account. And considering that the sales of this Dream exceed the # of WC subscriptions we've sold today, it would appear others aren't having this problem.
I'll ask the team to look in to it though.
